DONIZETTI OPERA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Descrizione

Donizetti Opera festival is presenting two rea rarities by Gaetano Donizetti, along with an impressive agenda rich of music proposals aimed to make everyone appreciate Donizetti and his operas, by involving the hometown of one of the world's most famous composers.

The 2016 artistic project starts right from these two premises, learning from its past successes and going even further, thus redesigning the Fall section dedicated to Donizetti's operas, which is going to become more and more like an actual festival focused on the so-called “Dies natalis”, November 29th, with the purpose of increasing the foreign audience. On the occasion of this outstanding event, Riccardo Muti will conduct the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, also celebrating his 50 years career. As we mentioned before, there will be two operas by Donizetti in 2016: the opera buffa “Olivo e Pasquale” and the melodrama “Rosmonda d'Inghilterra”, two absolute rarities casting the spotlight on the city of Bergamo, which aims to strengthen the bond with the composer. During Festival Donizetti Opera many other initiatives will take place, including a student-adaptation of “Olivo e Pasquale” called “Fratellanza” - “Brotherhood” - (on November 28th and 29th at Teatro Sociale), a series of events for Dies Natalis in addiction to Muti's concert (November 29th), and the recital by Leo Nucci, one of today's most appreciated and renown baritones (on November 30th at Teatro Donizetti), whose great experience will make us enjoy the connections between Donizetti and Verdi as if they were father and son, together with the Donizetti Opera Ensemble. In this light, we decided to close the festival with the staging of Verdi's most famous masterpiece, La traviata, featuring a new production by I Teatri di Reggio Emilia,  Teatro Comunale “Luciano Pavarotti” in Modena and OperaLombardia, directed by Alice Rohrwacher and conducted by maestro Filippo Lanzillotta (on December 2nd and 4th, Teatro Donizetti).
