The Mantua Truffle Route

Descrizione

The Oltrepò Mantovano, in the southeast part of the Mantua province, is a genuine natural truffle breeding ground of the Tuber magnatum Pico, the precious white truffle.
This area, in fact, is characterized by the rare combination of soil, climate and habitat which, if well balanced, become the ideal scenario for the birth and development of truffles, which is the gastronomic and cultural heart of the route and unquestionable protagonist of many of the local initiatives:  from the town festivals - Sagra del Tartufo di Borgofranco and Bonizzo, Tartufesta di Carbonara di Po from September to November – to household recipes. \
These recipes use truffles on sunny side up eggs, in risotto and egg noodles, together with famous pumpkin tortelli or used in cheese fondues.

The Oltrepò Mantovano is marked by the presence of the Po River, beacon and guide of local culture. The landscape here is a natural blend of the hard work of man and the tranquility of nature where the sounds of a productive life become lose in the silence of the vast countryside.

The farming vocation of the territory has produced a food tradition defined by principles and people.  And here, where soil, climate and habitat become the ideal scenario for the birth of the Tuber magnatum Pico (the previous white truffle), the Mantua Truffle Route focuses its work.  This association was created at the end of 2003 with the main goal of stimulating the development of the area through the promotion of an integrated touristic offer, created on the peculiar nature of the typical products, on the gastronomic traditions and on an adequate quality of the services.

This system finds its high point in the Tru.Mu, the Truffle Museum of Borgofranco sul Po, where the Association is located, in which a course, dedicated to adults and children, leads the visitor to discovering scientific data and particular news about this precious fungus.
