Strada del Riso and Risotti Mantovani, winds through a small portion of the Mantua territory easing down between the left bank of the Mincio river and the border with Veneto. Here the territory is characterized by the paddies: lands full of water influencing the colors of the landscape according to the season.

For centuries, the people of these places, thanks also to the hard work of rice weeders, have lived with this precious cereal that designed the landscape, with piles, courtyards and farmyards full of sacks ready to be transported in river pontoons or for stacking. The gastronomy made the rice preparation technique unique when it comes to the Vialone nano variety.  


Heir of these solid traditions, Strada del Riso e dei Risotti Mantovani, 70 km long, is aimed at  passing on the culture and peculiarity of this food. Also, it promotes consciousness about the rural territory of Mantua, full of courts, covered by Medieval walls and wonderful fluvial trails.

The association, sponsored by the Province of Mantua, has numerous partners, like rice producers, restaurants, agriturismi, organizations and committees, all wanting to preserve Mantua rice and Risotto “alla pilota”.

The association has 12 cities involved along with small villages. Besides stimulating the safeguarding of the landscape and the knowledge of local gastronomy, it helps tourism through the promotion of the area and the numerous food and wine offers that characterize it.

La Strada del Riso e dei Risotti Mantovani accompanies the tourist through numerous events, festivals and local celebrations in which rice is tasted and celebrated. A tour that should be done by car, bicycle or horse riding, stopping in courtyards and in the numerous restaurants of the area.
